Music by DJ DB

Music has always been very important in my life. I remember when I got my first transistor radio and I can still remember the smell of it when it came out of the plastic and styrofoam. My dad had a clock radio in the headboard of his bed and I would lie down switching the channels for hours. The best piece of furniture that my father still has is this console that opens to a mega radio, a turntable and on either side is a pull out bar that you can serve and store liquor and glasses. On the lower half on either side is where you stored your records and in the middle is a COOL rotating log fire place. I think they bought it on Fordham Road in the Bronx and I just love it.

I remember going to my friend Mary Anne's house and she had all these great 45's and we would Robot Dance to the Jackson Five - Dancing Machine. Soul Train and DJ PACO from WKTU were just the best. Whenever I got a dollar I went straight to the record store and bought a 45. The best days were just hanging out with friends and listening to music. Anyway I love it all Disco, R&B & Rock (my faves Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Guns and Roses etc. etc.

Lying down on my couch crying and listening to Mary J. Blige on rotation for months helped me get through my mothers death. It's totally true that music helps you get through the Up's and Down's in life. We even named our daughter Eve Catherine BLIGE . . .

Anyway I could write a book on all my musical experiences but the best one was meeting my husband DB at the Limelight in 1991. He happened to be there to listen to Bizarre Inc. and I was there with my  friend Sara who was DJ'ing. DB has been DJ'ing professionally since 1983 and over the years has created some legendary club nights in NYC such as Deep, Orange and NASA. We have been together for 22 years and even though we kind of drive each other crazy we love each other deeply.

His late night DJ career has slowed down as he is a bit "long in the tooth"
to be playing to kids but once every month or so he will get a call to be wheeled out for a "old skool" set (which means back in the day which means old). For the past 2 years he has created a once a month mix-tape type show  called BLURRINGradio for the online art institution Art on Air.org

I wanted to share his latest show which is all cover versions of famous songs.

Cool & Kooky Covers show

If you like his vibe than all the shows are posted down the pages here.. BLURRINGradio
