LISA SLIWA - GUARDIAN ANGELS - KEEPING IT SAFE

Growing up in New York in the 70's and 80's was a little scary. Especially riding the trains. When I got on the train to head to "the city" from The Bronx, there was always something going on. Usually fights. My good friends lived next door to Curtis Sliwa the founder of this group called the Guardian Angels. They were a volunteer organization of unarmed citizen crime patrollers. We would make fun of them because they would walk around Fordham Road in the Bronx in their red berets and we kind of thought they were a joke. Looking back at that time I can honestly say it made me breath with a sigh of relief when you saw them entering your subway car. You knew you were protected. I came across this image of Lisa Sliwa, Curtis's wife at the time. Not only was she beautiful, she was a black belt and a bad ass who patrolled the streets with her crew.
